YMCA of Greater Seattle Ground-Based Teambuilding Facilitators in Woodinville, Washington

Overview

Job Summary

Our Ground-Based Teambuilding Facilitators specialize in working with groups of all types, and are passionate about the experiential education process. This position is physical and requires working indoors and outdoors in all types of environments. Our facilitators are able to work in a lot of different places, sometimes our programs are portable, taking our program to the clients’ location, and sometimes we are working on-site at a YMCA facility. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in facilitation, teaching, instruction, and leading activities for groups. Additional training and certification is required and provided. This is a position that is great for those who love working with people in a dynamic learning environment.

Responsibilities

  1. Plans and implements program activities which may include specialized programming such as climbing, outdoor environmental education, teen leadership, sports, etc.

  2. Pre/Post inspection of challenge courses, equipment and surrounding areas.

  3. Proactively report equipment and supply needs to management.

  4. Responsible for instructing, training and coaching individuals and groups to ensure physical, mental and emotional safety.

  5. Must be able to communicate instructions and information in a developmentally appropriate manner.

  6. Oversee, train, schedule and debrief Belayers to ensure continuous coaching and development.

  7. Facilitate initial and annual refresher training for challenge course Belayers and support staff.

  8. Timely recordkeeping and reporting to management, as required.

Qualifications

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.

  2. High school diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education in related field strongly preferred.

  3. Minimum two seasons of documented programming and oversight of challenge course offerings; ropes, climbing walls.

  4. Certifications such as ACCT Level I or Level II preferred.

  5. Previous successful experience engaging children and teens in group activities.

  6. Current state approved first-aid certification by start date.

  7. Current state approved CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification by start date.

  8. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

  9. Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS IF THE POSITION REQUIRES DRIVING

21 years of age or older. Current Driver’s License with a minimum of 3 years safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards.

Maximum of one minor violation.

PREFERRED POSITION ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS

  • One year+ previous experience with children and families from diverse backgrounds.

  • 6 months+ experience teaching specified activity/skill hired for.

  • Program lesson planning and instructional skills.

  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
