YMCA of Greater Seattle Senior Director for licensed childcare, Kid’s University, summer camp, and school-based enrichment programs (District 4) in Seattle, Washington


YMCA of Greater Seattle seeks a dynamic, mission-driven Senior Director to support District 4’s long-term strategy, deliver on program commitments and nurture relationships with local key community and educational stakeholders. The Senior Director will provide program expertise and staff development, develop and maintain school based relationships and build best in class site structure for multiple youth-serving programs including, but not limited to, licensed childcare, Kid’s University, summer camp, and school-based enrichment programs. The Senior Director will work with the district executive to collaboratively lead District 4 strategy and vision both internally and externally, as set by Senior Leadership. In close partnership with the highly collaborative YMCA of Greater Seattle leadership, the Senior Leader is expected to build upon the organization’s success, constructing and fulfilling all assigned financial and operational goals and objectives. We are seeking a proven leader who can direct and support change management with ease. The Senior Director will be comfortable motivating, communicating, and influencing and in a multitude of environments with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens.


  • Supervises assigned staff to assure sound operations.

  • Provides leadership and direction by coaching and providing overall direction, performance management, and development to the District staff and volunteers.

  • In partnership with Centers of Excellence and district executive support the operational growth of District 4 through participant and site growth and participant experience including program expansion.

  • Represents and promotes the Y in the local communities and educational settings and develops positive, effective working relationships with school districts, community partners, businesses and governmental agencies.

  • Supports program delivery in District 4 to assure high quality results and site structure, which support district and association mission, goals and strategies.

  • Train, evaluate, and manage staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Grow and develop staff potential.

  • Ensure that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA standards and all regulations and applicable standards


  • Bachelor's degree in program area or related field or equivalent education/experience.

  • 5 years of experience in leadership experience in childcare and/or day camp.

  • Broad knowledge of licensed and unlicensed youth development programming and associated standards and regulations.

  • Experience applying youth program quality principles to new and existing programs.

  • Demonstrated skills with child behavior management and child abuse prevention.

  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.

  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to develop a strategy and implement through change management.

  • Additional experience, training and/or certifications may be required depending on program area (see below for summary qualifications):

  • Camping: Experience and demonstrated ability in year-round camp programming and operation. Knowledge of American Camping Association guidelines. Most positions require eligibility to obtain Commercial Driver's License. Adventure programs at camp require specialized training and experience in adventure education, rock climbing, biking, high-ropes operation/repair, kayaking and/or boating.

  • Child Care: Knowledge of child care licensing requirements, YMCA standards and American Camping Association standards for day camps.

  • Community Programs: Broad knowledge of assigned program areas, which may include youth sports, day camp, parent-child programs, etc.
