YMCA of Greater Seattle Program Executive – Family Programs in Seattle, Washington


Provides executive level leadership for the association’s Family Programs strategy for family engagement, Kids Zone (drop-in programming), holiday programming and recreation & enrichment classes. The Program Executive-Family Programs designs, implements and evaluates Family programs and services to achieve best practice and performance benchmarks. This person plans, designs, develops, implements and evaluates Family Programs training and leadership development programs, practices and systems to achieve organizational goals. This person designs, implements and evaluates best practices for hiring, training, onboarding, and coaching all Family Programs staff in partnership with Y branches within YGS.

This is an executive level position responsible for strategic development and management of the Association’s family programs delivered at YMCA of Greater Seattle branches. As part of the Youth Development Center of Excellence the Program Executive-Family Programs will develop and align Association standardization, policy, procedure and practice for Family Programs including KidsZone, holiday programming, family engagement activities and recreation & enrichment classes. This position will advise the Association regarding programming trends, policy/procedural changes, and implement quality assurance checks as coordinated with District staff and Risk Management. The Program Executive – Family Programs develops key relationships and partnerships in the community to advance mission and strategic direction of the YMCA of Greater Seattle.


  • Establish family programs activities and expansion within the branches and community in accordance with the

  • Association strategic plan and Youth Development Theory of Change.

  • Assists in developing strategic plan and initiatives for the Association and Youth Development Center of

  • Excellence.

  • Develops programs and protocols to ensure quality delivery and member experience.

  • Leads continuous improvement efforts to increase member satisfaction and impact scores.

  • Develops and implements systems, standard operating procedures, and tactics to advance our Youth

  • Development strategy through family engagement programs.

  • Designs, implements and ensures best practices for hiring, training, onboarding, and developing family programs

  • staff at all levels of the organization.

  • Works within the community to develop partnerships with other community-based organizations such as school

  • districts and youth & family serving agencies.

  • Develops relationships with potential sponsors, funders and community leaders to advance the Y’s mission.

  • Assists in development and distribution of program information necessary to promote programs, in accordance

  • with Association and branch marketing plans.

  • Ensure that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA, contract,

  • accreditation, and all relevant regulations and other applicable standards.

  • Provides support and association-level leadership to District Family Programs Directors. Supports branch

  • leadership in the assessment, evaluation, and coaching of branch family programs staff and volunteers.

  • Provides support for committees and task forces as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in recreations, health, social work, or a closely related field.

  • 8 or more years of related program experience, with 5 years of proven experience managing large family, recreation or youth programs facilities or programs.

  • 5 years of experience with staff and volunteer supervision, program development, and budget management.

  • High level of cultural competency to ensure quality and culturally appropriate programs are delivered to the branches across YMCA of Greater Seattle.

  • Experience with and knowledge of youth development and child abuse prevention.

  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Ability to visit sites and community organizations.


  • Master’s degree

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

  • Understanding of local and state regulations and experience working with regulatory agencies.
