Job Summary

The YMCA is on the look out for a great Early Learning Assistant Center Director who will help oversee the daily operations of our new Early Learning Education Center and Preschool opening in the fall.

You will help plan and implement a safe and quality child care program through working directly with employees, participants and parents. The ideal candidate will have experience working with all early learning age groups.

YGS will comply with all WA State mandates regarding COVID vaccinations.

All YGS staff in Child Care roles will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID by October 18, 2021. All YGS staff will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID by November 1, 2021 regardless of work location. Religious and Medical Exemptions will be considered at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensures planning and implementation of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA. Is responsible for the quality and completion of all program plans, including lesson, behavior and event plans.

  2. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates child care site staff/volunteers. Is responsible for professional development planning. Conducts staff meetings and organizes trainings. Maintains required staff/child ratios.

  3. Professionally communicates as needed confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians including newsletters, individual parent communication and parent/teacher conferences.

  4. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

  5. Maintains professional relationships with families, facility personnel and the community. May plan and conduct events for parents.

  6. May maintain required records according to YMCA and DSHS standards, including attendance records, immunization records, registration information, accident reports, discipline records and fire evacuation records.

  7. Recruits new enrollments.

  8. Ensures that site supplies are maintained and purchased as necessary.

  9. May assist with developing and monitoring department budgets.

  10. Ensures developmentally appropriate classrooms including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.

  11. May supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.

  12. May prepare and serve snacks.

  13. Recruits and supports members of Parent Advisory Group.

  14. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  15. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You are 21 years of age or older and should have:

  1. Three years or more of experience working with children kindergarten aged and younger.

  2. Two or more years of supervisory experience preferred.

  3. Requires written proof of education; including a current CDA, or minimum college credits as required by DEL (for example 45 credits in early childhood education). Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  4. Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty

  5. Experience overseeing, planning and implementing group activities

  6. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
