YMCA of Greater Seattle Teacher, Early Learning in Auburn, Washington


Job Summary

Provides guidance for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children. Supervises a group of children.


  1. Plans and implements program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA. Coordinates activities which fit the children's developmental needs.

  2. Provides leadership for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for each child.

  3. Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with families. May conduct conferences.

  4. Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.

  5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

  6. Provides assistance to supervisor and may fill-in during temporary absences.

  7. Maintains ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, cleanliness, and learning environment of site.

  8. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  9. Assists in recruitment of members for the Parent Advisory Group.


  1. 18 years of age or older.

  2. Current state approved first-aid certification.

    1. Current state approved community CPR certification.
    1. TB test by the Mantoux method. **
  1. HIV/AIDS training certification.
    1. For Early Childhood programs: 45 or more college quarter credits in early childhood/child development, or possess an equivalent educational background, or be a certified child development associate (preferred). For School-Age programs: 30 credits in elementary education, or the educational equivalent, in courses such as recreation, physical education, education, music, art, psychology or social services.
  1. Experience in working with children the same age as those to be supervised.

  2. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.

  3. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

  4. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

  • At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 90 days after employment).
